Air Liquide wins the “Mobility of the Future” award from Europe 1 radio
Air Liquide won the “Mobility of the Future” (“Mobilité de l’Avenir”) award at the Trophées de l’Avenir (future-looking prize) ceremony that “Europe 1” radio held in Paris on December 12. A panel of celebrities, journalists, scientists, experts and inventors rewarded companies, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, writers, citizens and elected officials for the contributions that their initiatives and breakthroughs are making to building a sustainable society.
Air Liquide was awarded the “Mobility of the Future” award for its initiatives aimed at developing hydrogen-powered electric vehicles and for setting up a network of hydrogen stations around the world.
Hydrogen is an alternative to fossil fuels in addressing the challenge posed by clean transportation and also helps to improve air quality. Used with a fuel cell, hydrogen combines with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water as the only by-product. The station rolled out in Paris in 2015, like the 75 stations designed and delivered by Air Liquide around the world, allow hydrogen-powered electric vehicles to recharge in less than five minutes, and give them a driving range of around 500 kilometers (310 miles). The station in Paris also helped support the world’s first hydrogen-powered taxi fleet (12 vehicles operating today, 60 more due to start operating in 2017).
Air Liquide masters the entire hydrogen supply chain, from production and storage to distribution and the development of applications for end users, thus contributing to the widespread use of hydrogen as a clean energy source, for mobility in particular.
